Este Castle of Mesola

Este Castle of Mesola

Four imposing towers with crenellated walls

The construction of the Mesola Castle took place in 1578 on the recommendation of Duke Alfonso II, the last descendant of the Este dynasty.

His goal was to create a pompous and magnificent court residence, in order to arouse the envy of the inhabitants of the most famous castle of Ferrara.
Today the Mesola Castle consists of 4 large towers, crenellated walls and very large windows.

Historians have identified it as a unique case, the pleasant encounter between a fortress and a residence dedicated to comforts.

Only twenty years later from the laying of the first stone, the Papal States returned to the possession of the Duchy of Ferrara and consequently also of Mesola, depriving Alfonso II of the power of "armed" delight.

If after visiting the Mesola Castle you need to stay or eat in a farmhouse, in Comacchio and surroundings, come to visit us in Pontemaodino!
